一本关于贵州石门坎苗族文化变迁的研究新近问世，作者为中国社会科学院社会学学者沈红。全书包括两个专题研究。一部分以中文写就，一部分以英文写就。 英文专题研究《石门坎苗民的信仰变迁：社区认同的符号建构》，初成于二十世纪九十年代末；中文专题研究《石门坎乡村教育兴衰：现代性的嵌入》，则写作于2001至2004年寒来暑往的田野工作和书案劳动。
这本书写给关注乡村教育和少数民族宗教文化发展的人们。笔者试图以贵州西北一个苗族社区的基督教文化传播和现代乡村教育的历史兴衰起伏，为现代化和现代性这样一些宏大叙事提出一个地方性文本，做出一些不同以往的说明。
这本书写给关注石门坎历史与现实的人们，无论他们居住在石门坎本土或者远在他乡。笔者调查和访问了许多见证石门坎文化变迁的人士，书里引用的虽然不足他们讲述的百分之一，已然使我们得以遥望石门坎百年风云，观察那些曾经的辉煌。

The monograph in Chinese is second output in the same community, in which the author moves the focus from identity issues to the modern education issues. Based on the fieldwork in the summer of 2001, the winter of 2002 and 2004, the analysis is to show how the Miao in Stone Gateway went down in education, as well as in sense of modernity.
