Nicholas Tapp，国外著名的Hmong人（苗族）研究学者、人类学家。英国人，1986年在伦敦大学东方与非洲研究学院获哲学博士学位。曾在香港中文大学人类学系任教职，期间与乔健教授合编了在中国族群领域颇有影响的论文集《中国的族性与族群》（Ethnicity & ethnic groups in China）（1989）。现为澳大利亚国立大学人类学系高级研究员。
最初，他基于在泰国Hmong人地区的田野研究，完成了博士论文《佛教与Hmong人：社会调适的一个个案研究》（Buddhism and the Hmong: a case study in social adjustment）（1986），不久后又出版了《主权与起义：泰国北部的白苗（white Hmong）》（1989）一书，影响很大，从此在国际人类学界崭露头角。该书出版后，他马上开始了对中国Hmong人的调查研究。1989-1991年期间，他在四川南部、贵州和云南的Hmong人地区开展田野调查。在此基础上，他出版了《西南中国的部落民》（The Tribal peoples of southwest China：Chinese views of the other within）（2000）、《中国Hmong人：情境、能动性与想像性》（The Hmong of China: Context, Agency, and the imaginary）（2001）。
自从获博士学位以来，他在相关学术界十分活跃，成果丰硕，影响广泛。目前，他正在从事的研究项目是“亚洲海外移民回归故乡的影响”，其调查研究涉及到中国、泰国、老挝、澳大利亚，今后可能还包括法国和美国的Hmong人社区。
